Freshly fallen snow – ten inches deep.
Temperatures hovering in the twenty degree range.
Hoisted backpack containing bare essentials.
Sit pad, pot, cup, and fire starting kit.
Headed out for a simple hike.
Creekside woods both hidden and exposed.
Stealth under dusk.
Waxing gibbous moon in the eastern sky.
Kindling of silver maple and box elder twigs.
Soft glow from an inconspicuous fire.
Hues between that of a mandarin and yam.
Pot packed with snow – set in glowing embers.
Reflections dance on the crystalized surface.
Melting point – shifting from solid to liquid.
Chocolate and water form a hot solution.
Contemplative stares at flickering flames.
Slurping sips of sweet delight.
A deep breath of fresh, crisp air.
Gear thrown in my pack.
Snow kicked on coals.
Moon shadows escort me along the trail.
Homeward bound.
Ninety minute outing.
Pretty simple.
See you along The Way…
